SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is a control system architecture that uses computers, networked communications, and graphical interfaces to provide high-level supervision of machines and processes across an entire manufacturing facility — or even across multiple sites.
A SCADA system collects real-time data from field devices — PLCs, RTUs, sensors, and drives — transmits it over an industrial network, and displays it on an operator workstation. Operators can monitor plant-wide status, acknowledge alarms, analyse trends, and send control commands, all from a centralised location.
