How Predictive Maintenance Works

1. Sensor installation — vibration, temperature, current, acoustic sensors fitted to motors, pumps, compressors, and bearings
2. Data collection — IIoT edge gateway (industrial PC) continuously collects sensor data
3. Baseline establishment — normal operating signatures are recorded for each machine
4. Anomaly detection — AI or statistical models flag deviations from baseline (e.g. bearing frequency shift indicating wear)
5. Alert and action — maintenance team receives alert with predicted remaining useful life, schedules intervention before failure

Typical Sensors Used

• Vibration (accelerometer) — most sensitive early indicator of bearing wear, imbalance, misalignment
• Temperature (RTD/thermocouple) — motor winding temperature, bearing housing temperature
• Current signature analysis — motor current waveform analysis detects rotor bar damage and load variations
• Acoustic emission — very early-stage bearing and gear defect detection
