Pros:

  • Lighter than a fixed terminal for field inspections

Cons:

  • Battery management — requires charging discipline
  • Higher drop/damage risk vs fixed panel
  • Less I/O than a panel PC (fewer COM ports, no GPIO)
  • Screen size limited (8"–12" typically)

Industrial Panel PC: Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Fixed station — always powered, always available
  • Full I/O — COM ports, GPIO, multiple USB
  • Larger screens (10"–21.5") for complex process views
  • IP65 front panel for washdown environments
  • Designed for 24/7 continuous operation

Cons:

  • Fixed location — operator must come to the panel
  • Higher installation cost (panel cutout, cabling)
