An HMI (Human Machine Interface) panel is a purpose-built touchscreen device designed to monitor and control a single machine or process. HMI panels run proprietary HMI software, connect directly to PLCs via industrial protocols (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS), and are optimized for real-time process visualization.
An industrial Panel PC is a full Windows or Linux computer built into a rugged, fanless touchscreen enclosure. Unlike an HMI, a Panel PC runs standard operating systems and can run any software — SCADA, MES, ERP clients, vision systems, and custom applications.
| Feature | HMI Panel | Industrial Panel PC |
|---|---|---|
| Operating System | Proprietary / embedded RTOS | Windows / Linux |
| Software | HMI runtime only | Any Windows/Linux app |
| PLC Connectivity | Native PLC drivers built-in | Via OPC, SCADA, or custom drivers |
| Typical Use | Single machine control | SCADA, MES, multi-machine supervision |
| Cost | Lower entry cost | Higher, but more capable |
For most Indian manufacturing setups, an HMI panel is the right choice for machine-level control — Cermate HMIs offer excellent value with strong local support from TSL. If you are setting up a plant-wide SCADA or MES system, an Avalue Panel PC is the better fit.
Our team in Mumbai can recommend the right HMI, Panel PC, or embedded system for your application.
